Research Interests & Skills

My major field of interest is cell and molecular biology, specifically virology and the ability to characterize virus isolates. By knowing plant virus isolates, it is possible to understand their gene regulation and thus methods to manipulate them may be discovered. Currently, I am working on detecting complex viruses in Allium cepa var. Aggregatum (Shallot) in the central and north Andean regions of Ecuador.

I am well versed in the following skills pertinent to my field of research:

  • gene and recombinant DNA cloning,
  • genomic PCR,
  • RT-PCR,
  • cloning full length genes by PCR,
  • sub cloning to expression vectors,
  • DNA sequencing analysis,
  • southern blot, northern blot,
  • DNA isolation from bacteria and yeast.

In addition, I speak and write fluently in Russian, English and Spanish.
